How the SPIA Calculator Works
Our annuity income calculator uses our rate tables for 8 A-rated insurance carriers, as of October 1, 2026, to estimate your guaranteed monthly income. Simply enter your age, gender, and the amount you'd like to invest, and we'll show you the range of monthly payments you could receive for the rest of your life.
What Affects Your Annuity Rate?
- Age: The older you are when you purchase, the higher your monthly payment. A 70-year-old will receive more per month than a 60-year-old for the same investment.
- Gender: Because women have longer life expectancies, female rates are slightly lower than male rates for the same age. Joint rates (covering two lives) are lower still.
- Investment amount: Monthly income rises roughly in proportion to the premium. The calculator scales our per-$100,000 figures, and a real quote at your premium can differ a little.
- Insurance carrier: Different carriers offer different rates. That's why we compare the 8 A-rated carriers in our tables.
- Current interest rates: Annuity rates are influenced by prevailing interest rates. When rates are higher, annuity payouts tend to be more generous.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is this annuity calculator?
The calculator gives estimates built from our rate tables for 8 A-rated carriers, as of October 1, 2026. Those tables start from quotes run for real clients, but not every figure in them is a direct quote, and figures between the table ages of 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 and 80 are interpolated. Your own quote depends on your exact date of birth, your state, your premium and the day you lock, so it can differ from the estimate. Immediate annuities have no health underwriting. Our methodology page explains how the tables are built. Read the methodology.
What amounts work best for a SPIA?
Most carriers accept investments from $25,000 to over $1 million. The sweet spot for most retirees is between $100,000 and $500,000 — enough to generate meaningful income while maintaining other liquid savings.
Can I invest more than $1,000,000 in an annuity?
Yes. Most carriers accept investments well above $1 million. For larger amounts, we can also help you split across multiple carriers for additional state guaranty association coverage.
